Dennis “Denny” A. Daniels, 93, a longtime Parsons resident, died at 11:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Life Care Center in Burlington. He had resided in Burlington after moving there in August 2008 to be near family.

He was born Sept. 26, 1916, at Parsons to John Mike and Lena Bell (Dukes) Daniels. He was raised here and attended school here. Upon graduating from high school, he attended the Parsons Junior College for a year. He then worked for the Katy Railroad and later the Kansas Ordnance Plant. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a staff sergeant in the 44th Troup Carrier Squadron during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in 1946 and began working as a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. He retired in 1973 and returned to Parsons in 1985.

On June 2, 1946, he married Carolyn Ruth Smith at Parsons. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2005.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Parsons and of the Criterion Sunday School Class. He also was a member of Brown-Bishop Post 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He belonged to AARP and the American Red Cross Heart Support Group.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Michael Daniels Jr.; and two sisters, Anna Lee Daniels and Anna Marie Malone.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Wolf and Paul Hett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post 704. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
