Gary L. Snider
McCUNE — Gary L. Snider, 66, of rural McCune, formerly of Parsons, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospice Unit in Wichita.
He was born July 25, 1943, in Parsons to Marvin and Wanda (Garrett) Snider. He grew up in Parsons and South Mound, where he attended elementary schools, and was a 1961 graduate of Erie High School.
For a time, he lived in Wichita before returning in 1974 to Parsons, where he owned and operated his own auto body shop, worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for 15 years and also worked at Parsons Auto Parts.
He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and for many years was involved with the Oswego car show. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He had attended Parsons Foursquare Church and Center Bethel Union Church and was a member of the Flatlanders Car Club.
On July 25, 1986, he married Irene Davis in Great Bend. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include five sons, Gary Wayne Snider and Marsha of Oswego, Steven Snider and Amanda of Parsons, Gene Lassley and Bonnie of Severy, Jerry Lynn Lassley and Rhonda of El Dorado and Sam Davis and Jody of Neodesha; two daughters, Betty Davis of Tempe, Ariz., and Liz O’Daniel and Mark of Erie; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lonnie Snider and Lou Anne of South Mound and Rex Snider and April of Parsons; and two sisters, Marla Rakes and David of Altamont and Dara Coonrod and Dale of South Mound.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Lori and Kevin Snider; and a grandson, Kris.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at South Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
