CHERRYVALE — Jacqueline Irene Prater, 79, of Cherryvale died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

She was born July 4, 1930, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Warren and Mabel (Buzzard) Spurgeon.

She married Billy Robert Prater on May 24, 1947, in Parsons. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Prater worked as a home health aid.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Prater of Independence and Ralph Prater of Cherryvale; three daughters, Marilyn Hestand, Debby Wilson, both of Cherryvale, and Linda Johnson of Baxter Springs; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Milo Spurgeon of Columbia, Mo.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Cherryvale. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to the Cherryvale Ambulance Service, with donations left at the funeral home.
