Parsons and Southeast Kansas received some needed boosts in recent weeks. A Service Valley Charter School seventh-grader, Matthew Wegner, won first place at the state spelling bee in Great Bend and earned a trip to the national bee in Washington, D.C., in June. McCourt, Yanez engagement
Ryan Yanez and Trenda McCourt, both of Parsons, announce their engagement. The bride-elect is the daughter of Janice McCourt of Parsons. The future groom is the son of Ian Yanez of Parsons and Nikole Chastain of St. Louis. Both the bride-elect and the future groom are attending Labette Community College. Yanez is studying to be a physical therapist and McCourt is studying to be a pathologist. The couple are planning a July wedding.

SCAMMON — The annual feast of St. Joseph will be Sunday at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Fourth and Keith, in Scammon.
