Dunlay leads PHS swim team at Winfield
WINFIELD — The Parsons High School girls swim team competed at Winfield on Tuesday.
Shannon Dunlay of Parsons took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 6:31. The time was also a state consideration time.
Dunlay placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.95.

Area players selected to all-star hoops game
PITTSBURG — Several area high school seniors have been selected to participate in the 2013 KSEK/KLKC Via Christi All-Star Basketball games.
Featuring the region’s top seniors, the games will be played this Sunday, April 7 at the St. Mary’s Colgan’s Fieldhouse in Pittsburg.

Erie’s Mildfelt takes first at home golf invite
ERIE — The Erie High School varsity boys golf team hosted the 2013 Erie Invitational on Monday.
The tournament was an 18 hole tournament, and featured nine teams.
Erie’s Hunter Mildfelt took first place overall with a score of 78.
Erie’s Zach McCoy shot a 94 and finished 11th overall.
Also for the Red Devils, Garek Peters finished with a 101, Gavon Page shot a 111, Sam Bernal had a 121, and Hunter Semrad shot a 124.

Grizzlies golf team wins Miami invite
MIAMI, Okla. — The Labette County High School boys golf team competed at Peoria Ridge Golf Course on Monday at the Miami Invitational.
There were 14 schools from Kansas and Oklahoma competing.
With three golfers in the top 10, the Grizzlies cruised to first place at the event with a team score of 324.
Labette County was 18 strokes better than second place Pryor.
Braden Page led Labette County with a 77, good for second place overall.

Youth wrestlers earn medals at state tourney
Three youth wrestlers from Parsons brought back some hardware from the 2013 USAWKS Kansas State Folkstyle Wrestling Championships. The event was held last weekend at the Topeka Expocentre, with more than 1,500 youth wrestlers competing.
Parker Winder, Tate Thurman, and Kolton Misener all earned top three finishes in their respective brackets.

Area track: St. Paul, Oswego athletes compete at Galena Relays
GALENA— Athletes from St. Paul and Oswego were among those competing at the Galena Bulldog Relays track meet last Thursday.
On the varsity girls side, St. Paul’s Josie Albertini took first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.60. A freshman, Albertini was second in the javelin (92’11), and fifth in the 300 hurdles (59.24).

LCC baseball drops three of four to Highland
The Labette Community College baseball team dropped three of four games to visiting Highland over the weekend.
On Friday, Highland swept a doubleheader from the Cardinals, winning game one 5-0 before taking game two 5-1.
In the first game, Labette couldn’t get much going offensively, as Highland’s Justin Paul threw a complete game shutout, striking out seven. The Cardinals managed just two hits in Friday’s opener.

Labette County will host a Class 4A regional baseball tournament the week of May 13 at Vic George Field.
Teams competing at the site are LCHS, Baxter Springs, Coffeyville, Columbus, Frontenac, Girard, Independence, Parsons and Pittsburg.

Lady Vikings drop two to Titans
The Parsons High School softball team began the 2013 season on Thursday.
And despite a solid effort, the Lady Vikings dropped both games of a doubleheader to visiting Columbus at Forest Park.

INDEPENDENCE — Labette County’s Gilvon Darkis earned medalist honors at the Independence Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday.
Darkis carded a 79 and edged Iola’s Kaden Macha by one stroke for first place.

INDEPENDENCE — Payton Hays took first place at number-one singles at Thursday’s Independence Invitational Tennis Meet.
The Parsons High School senior went 3-1 on the day.

The Labette Community College softball team had little trouble in taking two games from Fort Scott on Thursday.
In the first game, Labette hammered Fort Scott 18-1 in five innings.

The Parsons High School girls swim team competed at Osawatomie on Wednesday.

Sydney Alloway took fifth in the 200 free and was fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

The Labette County High School track team has several returning state qualifiers on the roster this spring.
All should be key performers once again for the Grizzlies in 2013.
