LCHS to have fall sports parents meeting Thursday
Labette County High School will have a fall sports parents meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the LCHS cafeteria. The meeting will be for parents of students participating in cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball and football. The parents meeting for cheerleading was last week, and the meeting for the dance team will be scheduled later. After the meeting, there will be breakout sessions for each sport.

Shultz wins title at John Daley tourney
The annual John Daley Tennis Championships Saturday and Sunday featured several competitive matches. Chris Shultz won the men's Open A division, getting two of his three victories by tie-breaker. American Bass Anglers Southeast Kansas District 58 hosted its annual Take an Airman Fishing event as part of Operation Rod and Reel last weekend on Big Hill Lake. The Parsons 15-year-old Babe Ruth League team kicked off the 15-year-old Babe Ruth Tournament of Champions in Coffeyville with a 12-4 win over Southwest on Friday. Two members from each of the eight teams entered in this weekend’s state tourney competed in the derby. Schibi stepped to the plate last and in need of two home runs to tie leader Cesar Breinga of Cimarron River. Schibi came up with four homers to win the event outright. Parsons team member Luke Wolgamott hit one home run and tied for third overall. Cyrus Kitchen of Osawatomie took first overall in the pitching contest. The Parsons 13-year old All-Star team played this weekend in Baxter Springs, earning a second-place finish in the Babe Ruth District 5 tournament.
