Lady Vikings earn split with Fort Scott Tuesday

It's been a different hero every night for the Lady Vikings of late.
Tuesday it was Logan Shelton.
The junior stepped to the plate with two on and the two out with the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning and ended up driving home the winning run to give Parsons a two-game split with the Fort Scott Tigers.
Parsons fell 9-7 in game one but won game two 7-6 thanks to the late-game dramatics....

LCHS JV golf finishes in fourth
The Labette County High School junior varsity golf team came away with a fourth-place finish in a tourney in Chanute on Monday.
The team shot a 213 overall in the nine-hole tourney.
Independence scored a 200 as a team to earn first while host Chanute shot a 207. Fort Scott rounded out the top three with a 209.
Chase Berry of Independence won the event with a 46.

Lion's club to host 11th annual 3 on 3 tourney in Altamont
The Altamont Lions Club will hold their 11th annual 3 on 3 basketball tourney at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 at Harrison Gymnasium at Labette County High School in Altamont.
Their will be an open men's division this year.
High school students are welcome, as KSHSAA rules will be observed.
The first-place team will receive a championship t-shirt. A sports drink and hot dog will be included with the entry fee.

Erie takes second in Iola Monday
The Erie High School golf team placed second at the Marmaton Valley Golf Invite at Cedar Brook Golf Course in Iola on Monday.
Due to a weather delay and eventual darkness, the event was shortened from 18 to nine holes of scoring.
Jayhawk-Linn won the tourney with a 178 as a team while Erie came in second with a team score of 182.
Pleasanton (203) was third, Oswego (215) was fourth, Uniontown (223) was fifth and Marmaton Valley (228) was sixth....

PHS JV softball drops two to Chanute Monday
The Parsons High School junior varsity softball team lost a pair of games in Chanute Monday evening.
The Vikings lost their opener 9-2 and trailed 6-0 in the second game before the game was rained out in the fourth inning.
The team started slow in the first game before the bats came to life in the fifth to score runs.
Bree Rogers, Libby Hizey and Audrey Perez have led the Vikes at the plate this season in JV action.

Two PWC wrestlers selected to represent Kansas
Kolton Misner and Chadwick Pinkley of the Parsons Wrestling Club have been chosen to wrestle for the Kansas dual team that will compete at the 2012 Heartland USA Elementary national Duals in Fremont, Neb. on April 14-15.
Four Kansas teams were selected with 12 alternates competing. Each team will wrestler other teams from across the nation.

LCHS JV takes first at Girard Invitational Thursday
The Labette County High School junior varsity golf team brought home first as a team and in the individual standings when they traveled to the Girard JV Invitational on Thursday.

The Parsons High School track team hosted a 10-team event Thursday evening at the PHS practice field.
Labette County High School came away the big winner in the event with a victory in both divisions.

Vikings travel to Winfield for swim meet
The Parsons High School swimming team traveled to Winfield Tuesday for a swimming meet.
The team was led by the second-place finish from the 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Reagan Argo, Shannon Dunlay, Sydney Markley and Victoria Port.
The same team also grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley.
Individually, Argo brought home a seventh in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Saints open track season in Galena Tuesday
The St. Patrick Catholic School track and field team traveled to the Galena Bulldog Ice Box Invitational on Tuesday.
The meet was the first of the season for the Saints.
THe team has nine seventh-graders and five eighth-graders competing, but the eighth-grade boys and one seventh-grade boys were unable to attend due to another school-related activity.
The girls gathered 35 total points to place eighth out of 14 teams.

The Labette County High School junior varsity softball team recovered from a pair of losses to Fort Scott last week with two victories over Coffeyville Monday evening in Coffeyville.
Sophomore pitcher Darcy Cole led the team to a 14-2 victory in game one.

Grizzlies varsity golf completes second tourney
The Labette County High School boys' golf team opened the season at the Independence Invitational on March 29.
The LCHS varsity boys finished seventh out of 11 teams with a team total of 377.
Aaron White took seventh with an 83 while Braden Page was eighth overall with an 84 to round out the top-10 scoring for LCHS.
