Area athletes square off at Oswego track invite
OSWEGO —The 2013 Oswego Invitational Track Meet was held on Thursday.
In addition to the host Indians, St. Paul and Chetopa were among the other teams competing.
St. Paul’s girls took second in the team standings, with Jayhawk-Linn taking first.
Jenny O’Bryan won the 1600 (5:55), and the 3200 (12:16) for the Indians.

Parsons Middle School track team fares well at Indy
The Parsons Middle School track team competed at Independence on Thursday.
The eighth grade boys took first place, the seventh grade boys were second, the seventh grade girls took fifth place, and the eighth grade girls were sixth. The coaching staff said they were proud of the Vikings for their efforts and achievements.

The growth of the Labette County High School girls swim team was on full display Wednesday at the Parsons State Hospital pool.
The Grizzlies competed against the Parsons Lady Vikings in a dual meet.
And Labette County’s girls swimming program appears to be on the rise, as the team has impressive numbers this season.

This past weekend Oswego High School took 14 students to the 2A State Powerlifting Meet in Solomon under the direction of Coach Travis Burk. Oswego finished second in the team standings.

Labette Community College women’s basketball player Brooke Dickey has signed a letter of intent with Friends University for the 2013-2014 season.

ST. PAUL — Five dates into the season, the St. Paul High School baseball team is still undefeated.
The Indians swept a doubleheader from rival Chetopa on Tuesday, winning game one 9-2 and then taking the second game 5-1. With the sweep, the Indians are now 5-0 on the season.

PITTSBURG — Gilvon Darkis and Braden Page led the Labette County High School boys golf team to a first place finish at the Pittsburg Invitational on Tuesday at Crestwood Country Club.

FORT SCOTT — The offense was hard to come by for the Parsons High School softballl team on Tuesday at Fort Scott.
Led by strong pitching, unbeaten Fort Scott swept a doubleheader from the Lady Vikings at Don Hewett Field.

The Labette County High School tennis team hosted an invite on Tuesday at Forest Park in Parsons. The Grizzlies took second place with six wins. Independence was first with 10 wins, while Columbus and Fort Scott finished third and fourth.

Despite loss, Vikings baseball team makes progress
