Grizzlies sending talented group to state track meet

Jenny O’Bryan will be running bright and early on Friday morning at the Class 1A State Track Meet in Wichita.

State golf: Sanders finishes prep golf career at state

Joey Sanders ended his prep golf career at Monday at the Class 4A State Golf Tournament in Cheney.
A Parsons High School senior, Sanders shot an 84 and was unable to medal. He finished 61st overall in the 4A field.
“It was kind of a grind it out day for Joey,” Parsons Coach Anthony Houk said. “He started out with three bogeys, and then he had a couple of pars. He was three over after seven holes.”

Various summer camp dates, info released
Tennis camp, lessons offered
A local tennis camp for middle school and high school athletes will July 15-18 at Forest Park. Contact Parsons Coach Jane Posch at 620-820-3855 to sign-up. Cost is $20. The camp will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Posch is also offering tennis lessons, beginning the first week of June.

Parsons High School has several coaching vacancies
Parsons High School Principal Matt Rogers has confirmed to the Sun that PHS now has several varsity head coaching vacancies.
Parsons High School is now looking for new head coaches for volleyball, cross country, boys basketball, girls basketball, and track and field.
Rogers said the search is on-going.
“They’re all open and we’re actively looking,” Rogers said. “We have our kids best interests at heart.”

A third place finish at last year’s state baseball tournament left the St. Paul Indians wanting more.
And after winning the Yates Center Regional last week in dominating fashion, the Indians will get another shot at a state crown.

State Golf: Oswego's Dickerson takes eighth in 2A, Berrios leads Chetopa at 1A event
DODGE CITY— Zac Dickerson of Oswego earned an eighth place finish at the 2013 Class 2A State Golf Tournament on Monday at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
Dickerson shot an 82 and finished eighth overall, earning a medal.

State Golf: Erie's Page competes at 3A tournament
SENECA — Erie’s Gavon Page competed at the Class 3A State Golf Tournament on Monday at Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca.
Page shot a 99 and was unable to medal.
Erie Coach Ronnie Williams said rain prohibited Page from getting in a practice round the day before the state tourney.

State Golf: Page leads Grizzlies at 4A tourney
CHENEY — Labette County finished 10th in the team standings at the Class 4A State Golf Tournament on Monday at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney.
The Grizzlies finished with a team score of 334. Wichita Collegiate won the team title with a score of 299 and Kansas City Piper was a close second with a 305.

WELLSVILLE — Christian Murphy will end his prep career at the state track meet.
The Erie High School senior advanced to state in his signature event at the Wellsville Class 3A Regional. Murphy took first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.46.

YATES CENTER — Oswego High School had athletes qualify for state at the Class 2A Yates Center Regional.

TOPEKA — The Kansas Class 5-4-3-2-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships were held Friday and Saturday in Topeka.
Three athletes from Parsons High School and two from St. Paul High School competed alongside the state’s best.

BURLINGTON — St. Paul High School athletes competed at the Southern Coffey County Class 1A Track Regional at Burlington High School on Friday.
St. Paul distance runner Jenny O’Bryan advanced to state by winning gold in two events. The freshman took first place in the girls mile with a time of 5:42 and also won the 3200, finishing in 12:33.

IOLA — As Abe Russell crossed the finish line, he pumped his fist into the air and let out a celebratory scream.

The 2013 Labette County Basketball Camp will be held from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31 at LCHS. The camp is under the direction of LCHS Boys Coach Brad Smith, LCHS Girls Coach Kristi Snider and assistant coaches Clint Witty, Brian Tucker and Heather Wilson.
