Mo-Kan all-star wrestling event is Monday at LCC
The Fourth Annual Mo-Kan Wrestling Classic will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Labette Community College gymnasium.
The event features top senior wrestlers from Kansas going up against top seniors from Missouri. The Kansas team, featuring lots of local talent, will look to win the event for a fourth-straight year. Admission is $5 at the door.

Cowley sweeps LCC
Cowley swept a basketball doubleheader from Labette Community College on Wednesday.
In the women's game, Cowley beat LCC 75-51.
Cowley won the men's game 70-65.
The teams will begin the region tournament this weekend, and the men will likely host a game on Saturday.

Sub-State hoops: Area teams in action tonight
Postseason basketball continues tonight throughout the area.
As far as the Colgan 3A Sub-State, Cherryvale’s boys are at Caney Valley tonight at 6 p.m.
Erie’s boys will take on Riverton tonight at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Colgan. Galena and Southeast will meet after Erie’s game, while Colgan takes on Neodesha in the first game at 4:30 p.m.

Cherryvale girls move on
CHERRYVALE — The Cherryvale Chargers’ offense pounded the ball inside all night Wednesday to end the season for the Riverton Rams. The Lady Chargers won 76-47.
With the win, Cherryvale will play Erie at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Pittsburg’s St. Mary’s Colgan in the Class 3A sub-state tournament. Erie defeated Galena Wednesday night to advance.

ERIE — The Erie High School girls basketball team rolled over visiting Galena 51-28 here Wednesday night in the first game of the sub-state tournament for the teams.
The Lady Red Devils are the three seed in the Class 3A sub-state and Galena was the six seed. With the win, Erie will play Cherryvale at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Colgan in Pittsburg. Cherryvale defeated Riverton 76-47 Wednesday night to advance.

CHANUTE — The 2012-13 season ended for the Parsons High School girls basketball team with a 68-44 loss to Chanute on Wednesday night in a first round game of the Independence Class 4A Sub-State.
The PHS girls end the season with a record of 1-19. Chanute (16-5) moves on the sub-state semifinals on Friday for a date with Independence at 7:30 p.m.

MIAMI, Okla. — The Labette Community College softball team split a doubleheader with sixth-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Sunday.

A parade and community celebration will be held for the Labette Community College wrestling team and coaches on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
The parade float will start at Central and Main Street in Parsons, and will travel east to the LCC Gym.
A community celebration will be held in the LCC Gym immediately following the parade. The community is invited to line Main Street and go the gym to congratulate this hard working team and coaches.

There’s no doubt that Joe Renfro has left a legacy at Labette Community College.
In his final two years at the helm, Renfro directed the Cardinals to back-to-back national wrestling titles.

INDEPENDENCE — The things that hampered the Parsons Vikings all season long reappeared on Monday night.
A lack of offense, some untimely turnovers and a lack of rebounding ultimately doomed the Vikings.
Independence knocked off Parsons 40-24 on Monday night in a first round boys game of the Independence Class 4A Sub-State tournament.

HAYS— Cherryvale and Erie athletes competed at the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament over the weekend in Hays.

COLONY — With a 52-42 win over Crest on Saturday, the St. Paul High School boys basketball team clinched the Three Rivers League title for 2012-13.
Both Crest and St. Paul entered the game at 7-1 in the league.
