LCC baseball ends conference play on a high note
The Labette Community College baseball team finished Jayhawk East play on a positive note.
The Cardinals swept a doubleheader from Johnson County on Monday, winning game one 8-7 and game two 4-2.
In game one, LCC trailed 4-0, but the Cardinals scored four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to get the win.

The Labette Community College softball team hadn’t played in nearly two weeks.
It was hard to tell.
Looking anything but rusty, the Lady Cardinals dominated from start to finish in a two-game sweep over Fort Scott on Monday in a District E first round series of the Region VI Tournament.
The Lady Cardinals won game one 18-3 in five innings.

Lady Vikings knock off St. Paul

CHETOPA — The Parsons Lady Vikings earned a non-league softball win over St. Paul on Monday in Chetopa.
But it wasn’t easy.
After building a big early lead, the Lady Vikings had to battle to the end to secure a much-needed win.
Parsons eventually earned an 18-12 victory over the Indians.
The Vikings played Chetopa in a second game, but that result was not available at press time.

Erie golf takes first at Sedan
The Erie High School varsity golf team took first place at the Sedan Invitational last Thursday.
“I am really proud of all of my golfers who competed today,” Erie Coach Ronnie Williams said. “They have worked hard in practice and I really felt like they deserved to win. Overall, I’m really pleased with where we are now as a team, and I think we are going to be very competitive heading into our league and regional tournaments.”

Parsons Chamber golf tourney is May 11
The Parsons Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 22nd Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Parsons Golf and Fitness Center. Tee-off times for the three-person scrambles are set for 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. if enough teams warrant an afternoon tee off.

Big Hill Lake hosts fishing tournament
Some of the best fishermen in southeast Kansas braved wind and rain to compete in the American Bass Anglers qualifying event on Big Hill Lake near Cherryvale this past weekend. Brian Fahler of Independence won the April 27 tournament and Becky Minor of Parsons took second place. The Labette County High School boys golf team took first place at Thursday’s invitational at Parsons Golf and Fitness.

INDEPENDENCE — The Labette County Grizzlies needed extra innings in game two, but in the end, the visitors earned a high school baseball sweep over Independence on Thursday.
Labette County won the opener 9-0. The Grizzlies took the nightcap 7-5 in nine innings.

The Parsons High School varsity girls softball team saw leads slip away in both games of a doubleheader with Pittsburg on Thursday.
As a result, the visiting Purple Dragons took both league games from the Lady Vikings.

But a seventh-inning rally fell just short, and the first league victory of the season slipped away from the Parsons Vikings.

UNIONTOWN — Track teams from St. Paul and Chetopa High Schools competed at the Uniontown Invitational Track Meet on Monday.
