Parsons HS tennis takes first at home meet Thursday

The Parsons High School tennis team defended its home court Thursday evening in Parsons with a victory at the Parsons Vikings Tennis Invitational.
The Vikes invited three other schools — Independence, Coffeyville and Chanute — to the Forest Park tennis courts for tournament action.

Vikings travel to Winfield for swim meet
The Parsons High School swimming team traveled to Winfield Tuesday for a swimming meet.
The team was led by the second-place finish from the 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Reagan Argo, Shannon Dunlay, Sydney Markley and Victoria Port.
The same team also grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley.
Individually, Argo brought home a seventh in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Saints open track season in Galena Tuesday
The St. Patrick Catholic School track and field team traveled to the Galena Bulldog Ice Box Invitational on Tuesday.
The meet was the first of the season for the Saints.
THe team has nine seventh-graders and five eighth-graders competing, but the eighth-grade boys and one seventh-grade boys were unable to attend due to another school-related activity.
The girls gathered 35 total points to place eighth out of 14 teams.

LCHS sweeps Coffeyville JV Monday evening
The Labette County High School junior varsity softball team recovered from a pair of losses to Fort Scott last week with two victories over Coffeyville Monday evening in Coffeyville.
Sophomore pitcher Darcy Cole led the team to a 14-2 victory in game one.
The Lady Grizzlies also had a strong night at the plate.

Grizzlies varsity golf completes second tourney
The Labette County High School boys' golf team opened the season at the Independence Invitational on March 29.
The LCHS varsity boys finished seventh out of 11 teams with a team total of 377.
Aaron White took seventh with an 83 while Braden Page was eighth overall with an 84 to round out the top-10 scoring for LCHS.
It was the lowest round of White's high-school career.

Corporate competition coming back to Chamber golf tourney
The Parsons Chamber of Commerce and the Parsons Recreation Commission have partnered to bring back the Corporate Challenge Division to the Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament for 2012.
Under the agreement of the partnership, teams that register for the annual Chamber Golf Tournament will be allowed to list a company member that they are playing for during the Chambers event.

Erie golf team places third at home meet
Erie High School hosted their annual golf invite at the Prairie Ridge Golf Course on Monday.
Caney won the event with a 342 as a team followed by Jayhawk Linn, at 354 total.
Erie was the third-highest placing team with a 386 team total.

Galesburg Middle School begins track season
Galesburg Middle School opened their track season on Thursday, March 29 at the Southeast Invitational. Galesburg has 10 eighth-grade athletes participating in track with eight boys and two girls competing. The Timberwolves have 13 athletes in seventh-grade with eight boys and five girls.

ALTAMONT — The Labette County High School baseball team moved to 3-5 overall and 1-3 within the Southeast Kansas League with a two-game split against Coffeyville here Tuesday night.

Two SPHS swimmers qualify twice for state
The St. Paul High School swimming team began the season on March 27 with a trip to Winfield.
The team has five members, with Shawlisa Pollman, Erin Duncan, Sara Greenough and Brytany Stewart returning to the team and Darbi Ahlquist joining the squad this year.
During the meet, Stewart, a sophomore from Southeast High School, made the cut in the 50-yard freestyle to earn a trip to state while there.

The Erie High School track team traveled to the Southeast Invitational in Cherokee on Tuesday.
Chris Bohrer topped the javelin throw to earn Erie its only gold of the day.

District 58 tourney takes place at Big Hill Lake
Big Hill Lake saw one of the largest tournaments in its history as District 58 of the American Bass Anglers in Southeast Kansas held its second tournament for the 2012 season there Saturday.

The Parsons Middle School golf team began its season on Monday at Four Oaks Golf Course in Pittsburg.
The team was greeted with sunny and clear conditions.
