Sanders leads PHS golf team at Coffeyville
COFFEYVILLE — Joey Sanders led the way for the Parsons High School boys golf team on Tuesday at the Coffeyville Invitational. Sanders shot a 98 and took 30th place.
Also for Parsons, Ben Brewer shot a 99 and finished 34th, while Bryan Walker took 37th place with a 103. Rounding out the scoring for Parsons were Lee Head (111, 46th), and Max Newland (116, 49th).

Murphy leads Erie track at Baxter Springs
BAXTER — The Erie High School track team competed at Baxter Springs on Tuesday.
For the Red Devils, Christian Murphy took first place in the 110 hurdles, first in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the shot put, and fifth in the discus. Erie Coach Nathan Teichgraeber said Murphy’s times in the hurdles events are tops in Class 3A.

ALTAMONT — A busy week began with a win for the Labette County High School softball team.
Host Labette County defeated St. Mary’s Colgan 7-2 on Tuesday.
It was the first of three-straight dates for the Grizzlies, who play Fort Scott today and Parsons on Thursday.

Chetopa earns walk-off win over Parsons
CHETOPA — After a late rally forced extra innings, the Chetopa High School softball team earned a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Parsons Lady Vikings on Monday night.
Visiting Parsons led 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh. But Chetopa rallied for two runs in the seventh to force extra innings.

COFFEYVILLE — The Labette County High School track team had several impressive performances at the Coffeyville Relays Track and Field Invitational.
In fact, the boys took first place in the team standings.

LCC baseball ends conference play on a high note
The Labette Community College baseball team finished Jayhawk East play on a positive note.
The Cardinals swept a doubleheader from Johnson County on Monday, winning game one 8-7 and game two 4-2.
In game one, LCC trailed 4-0, but the Cardinals scored four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to get the win.

Looking anything but rusty, the Lady Cardinals dominated from start to finish in a two-game sweep over Fort Scott on Monday in a District E first round series of the Region VI Tournament.

Lady Vikings knock off St. Paul

CHETOPA — The Parsons Lady Vikings earned a non-league softball win over St. Paul on Monday in Chetopa.
But it wasn’t easy.
After building a big early lead, the Lady Vikings had to battle to the end to secure a much-needed win.
Parsons eventually earned an 18-12 victory over the Indians.
The Vikings played Chetopa in a second game, but that result was not available at press time.

Erie golf takes first at Sedan
The Erie High School varsity golf team took first place at the Sedan Invitational last Thursday.

The Parsons Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 22nd Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Parsons Golf and Fitness Center. Tee-off times for the three-person scrambles are set for 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. if enough teams warrant an afternoon tee off.

Big Hill Lake hosts fishing tournament
Some of the best fishermen in southeast Kansas braved wind and rain to compete in the American Bass Anglers qualifying event on Big Hill Lake near Cherryvale this past weekend. INDEPENDENCE — The Labette County Grizzlies needed extra innings in game two, but in the end, the visitors earned a high school baseball sweep over Independence on Thursday.
Labette County won the opener 9-0. The Grizzlies took the nightcap 7-5 in nine innings.
