Weather disrupts sub-state schedules
The recent winter weather has wreaked havoc on the area basketball sub-state tournamentss. Several games were postponed on Monday and more were wiped out on Tuesday.
The Parsons at Chanute girls basketball game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed. The first round sub-state game will now be made up Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Chanute.

Kemp leads LCC softball past sixth-ranked NEO
MIAMI, Okla. — The Labette Community College softball team split a doubleheader with sixth-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Sunday.
In game one, LCC defeated NEO 6-1. The hosts defeated the Cardinals 8-1 in game two.
In game one, Taylor Kemp earned the win on the mound, going seven innings and allowing just one earned run.

LCC wrestling team to be recognized on Thursday
A parade and community celebration will be held for the Labette Community College wrestling team and coaches on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
The parade float will start at Central and Main Street in Parsons, and will travel east to the LCC Gym.
A community celebration will be held in the LCC Gym immediately following the parade. The community is invited to line Main Street and go the gym to congratulate this hard working team and coaches.

Renfro goes out on top

There’s no doubt that Joe Renfro has left a legacy at Labette Community College.
In his final two years at the helm, Renfro directed the Cardinals to back-to-back national wrestling titles.
But the longtime coach who once wore the Cardinal uniform himself is now done at LCC. Renfro will now resurrect NEO A&M’s program in Miami, Oklahoma.

Vikings bow out with first round loss

INDEPENDENCE — The things that hampered the Parsons Vikings all season long reappeared on Monday night.
A lack of offense, some untimely turnovers and a lack of rebounding ultimately doomed the Vikings.
Independence knocked off Parsons 40-24 on Monday night in a first round boys game of the Independence Class 4A Sub-State tournament.

SALINA — With his place alongside the state’s best secured, Andrew Fix steps up to the awards podium, and has a medal placed around his neck.

Chargers, Devils compete at state wrestling
HAYS— Cherryvale and Erie athletes competed at the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament over the weekend in Hays.
None of the local athletes were able to place.
Cherryvale’s DJ Cook went 1-2 at 126 pounds. Cook pinned Rossville’s Jacob Gentry in the first round. Hoisington’s Brandon Ball pinned Cook in the quarterfinals. Next, Bennington’s TJ Ragnoni pinned Cook in the consolation round.

St. Paul boys beat Crest, clinch league title
COLONY — With a 52-42 win over Crest on Saturday, the St. Paul High School boys basketball team clinched the Three Rivers League title for 2012-13.
Both Crest and St. Paul entered the game at 7-1 in the league.
The game was tied at 34 entering the fourth quarter. That’s when Keith Wiatrak’s Indians went on an 18-8 run to finish the game.

Oswego boys earn sub-state win
OSWEGO — The Oswego High School boys defeated Yates Center 51-37 here Monday night in the first round of the sub-state basketball tournament.
The remaining games in the Class 2A sub-state will be at Northeast-Arma.

KANSAS CITY — The Labette Community College basketball teams dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at Kansas City, Kansas.
In the women’s game, KCK defeated Labette 54-36.
The Blue Devils won the men’s game over the Cardinals 64-60.
The KCK women used a big first half to get past the Lady Cards. The Devils led 38-14 at the half.
