Big Hill Lake hosts fishing tournament
Some of the best fishermen in southeast Kansas braved wind and rain to compete in the American Bass Anglers qualifying event on Big Hill Lake near Cherryvale this past weekend.  Brian Fahler of Independence won the April 27 tournament and Becky Minor of Parsons took second place.  Fahler’s 19.81 pound winning string of fish was anchored by the big bass of the event, a 5.71 pound large mouth.  Fahler reported he caught his fish on a white spinn...

The Parsons High School varsity girls softball team saw leads slip away in both games of a doubleheader with Pittsburg on Thursday. As a result, the visiting Purple Dragons took both league games from the Lady Vikings. Pittsburg won the opener 13-5, and the Dragons took game two 11-8. EL DORADO — The Parsons High School girls swim team competed at El Dorado last Friday. Shannon Dunlay finished 10th in the 50 free (29.3) and ninth in the 100 free (1:04).
