PHS JV splits with Coffeyville
The Parsons High School junior varsity baseball team came away with a two-game split against Coffeyville Wednesday.
Parsons fell 16-1 in the opener but came back with a 6-5 victory in the second game.
The Vikings went up 1-0 early in the opener when Elyjah Lyons was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The hit scored Tyler Drisdell, who had doubled earlier in the inning.

PHS JV softball picks up two wins
The Parsons High School junior varsity softball team played for the second night in a row Wednesday in Parsons against Coffeyville
After winning one game and finishing with a tie in another the night before, Parsons won both against the Golden Tornado Wednesday. The Vikes won game one 11-9 and eanred an 18-16 victory in the second of two games.

Erie golf team takes fifth at Fredonia invite
The Erie High School golf team finished fifth out of seven teams at the Fredonia Invitational golf tourney on Tuesday.
Host Fredonia took first with a score of 340 followed by Olpe (343), Burlington (363), Eureka (363) and Erie (381).
Yates Center (480) and Sedan (488) rounded out the scoring.
Olpe's Chase Coble fired a 79 to win the event followed by Howard Mahan of Fredonia with an 80.

Zaleski places for second week in row
For the second week in a row local tournament angler Jim Zaleski cashed in at a fishing tournament hampered by thunderstorms and lightening.
Zaleski, a resident of rural Parsons, and his teammate Zac Udock of Joplin fought the elements and some less-than-perfect fishing conditions on Grand Lake to a seventh-place finish out of a field of 254 boats this past weekend of April 14-15.

Parsons MS golfers take fifth in Garnett
Strong, breezy winds greeted the Parsons Middle School golf team Wednesday in Garnett at the Anderson County Invitational held at the Garnett Country Club.
Eighth-grader Lee Head led the Vikings with a 52, good for 14th overall and a medal.
Bailey Collins, David Haskew and Sammy Ford finished with 60, 64 and 72 respectively.
Austin Mears, a seventh-grader, shot a 60 as well.

Vikings conclude postponed home meet with win

Rain didn't slow the Vikings Wednesday.
The Parsons High School tennis team earned a first-place finish at a home invitational tournament Wednesday afternoon.
The event was the conclusion of the Vikings' invite that began Friday but was postponed due to rains.
When action resumed Wednesday the Vikings took advantage of the home courts at Forest Park.

SPHS drops two to Jayhawk-Linn
The St. Paul High School baseball team fell from the unbeaten ranks Tuesday in Mound City with a pair of losses to Jayhawk-Linn.
One night after sweeping Northeast 3-1 and 9-6, the Indians fell to Jayhawk-Linn 15-5 and 14-4.
In the opener, St. Paul surrendered 11 runs in the first inning and was never able to recover.

Vikings take second as team in Towanda
Parsons High School pulled out a second-place finish despite missing one half of its No. 1 doubles team Tuesday in Towanda.
The Vikings had 56 points as a team in the eight-team bracket to take second to Wellington, who scored 62 points.
Host Towanda-Circle was third with 45 points and Labette County High School gathered 30 points as a team to take fifth.

PHS JV softball wins, ties against Iola
Tuesday, the Parsons High School junior varsity softball team traveled to Iola for a pair of games.
The Vikings tied with Iola 11-11 in game one and won game two 17-5.
PHS JV coach Chris Durkin said Shelbi Carpenter and Bree Rogers were solid on the mound, and the Vikings overcame fielding errors in game one.
In the second game, Parsons' defense stepped up and the bats continued to shine in the 12-run win.

LCHS boys take first at Columbus Invitational, Krull breaks record
The Parsons and Labette County High School track teams traveled to the Columbus Invitational track meet in Columbus Tuesday and came away with several honors.
For Labette County High School, the day was highlighted by the team's overall finishes.

Reynolds wins POW award from NFCA
Labette County High School senior Allie Reynolds has been named the South Central Regional High School Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association.
Reynolds has led the unbeaten Grizzlies to a 10-0 start.
In total, the Labette senior has faced 144 batters and struck out 101 of them.

Parsons MS golf team competes in Mound City
The Parsons Middle School golf team traveled to Mound City Monday to compete at the Sugar Valley Lakes Golf Club.
Jayhawk-Linn hosted the event and seven teams were present.
Parsons was once again led by eighth-graders Lee Head and Bailey Collins.
Head finished with a 52, good for a tie for ninth, but lost the tie-breaker and finished 11th.
Collins shot a 59 to take fourth in the girls' division.

Jackson dominates in Cards' sweep Tuesday
The Labette Community College baseball team got a much needed sweep over Allen County Community College Tuesday to finish off a 3-1 series against the Red Devils this season.
After doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday were postponed, the Cardinals took game one Monday 6-5 and dropped game two 7-5.

Katy to host golf tourneys in early May
The Katy Golf Club will be holding three benefit tournaments in early May.
A ladies' tournament will start a series of events at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2.
The tourney will be a four-person nine-hole scramble event.
The cost to play is $25 per person and hamburgers will be served following the event.
On Thursday, May 3 a senior men's tourney and horserace will be held at the Katy.

SPHS travels to powerlifting meet
The St. Paul High School powerlifting team traveled to Claflin on Saturday, April 14 for the Class 1A state tourney.
The St. Paul boys placed fifth overall.
Logan Hall took first overall in the 105-pound division bench press with a lift of 105 pounds.
Hall also took third in the squat (165 pounds) and power clean (105 pounds).
His 375-pound total in the three events was just 30 pounds short of overall champion Trevor Frasier of Weskan.

The Labette County High School junior varsity baseball team moved to 10-2 in a split with Chanute Monday evening in Altamont.
The Grizzlies earned a 5-4 victory in game one but fell 6-5 in the second game of the doubleheader.
