St. Paul baseball remains undefeated

ST. PAUL — Five dates into the season, the St. Paul High School baseball team is still undefeated.
The Indians swept a doubleheader from rival Chetopa on Tuesday, winning game one 9-2 and then taking the second game 5-1. With the sweep, the Indians are now 5-0 on the season.

LCHS wins golf invite
PITTSBURG — Gilvon Darkis and Braden Page led the Labette County High School boys golf team to a first place finish at the Pittsburg Invitational on Tuesday at Crestwood Country Club.
Darkis took first place overall with a score of 78. Page tied for second with a 79. Austin Krewson finished fourth overall with an 80, while Aaron White carded an 83. Griffin Argo finished with an 89, and Drew Dwyer had a 102.

Local athletes selected to NCCC’s Turner all-star game
The Harold Turner High School Basketball All-Star games will take place on Sunday at Neosho County Community College in Chanute.

Fort Scott too much for Lady Vikings
FORT SCOTT — The offense was hard to come by for the Parsons High School softballl team on Tuesday at Fort Scott.
Led by strong pitching, unbeaten Fort Scott swept a doubleheader from the Lady Vikings at Don Hewett Field.
Fort Scott won game one 10-0, as Tigers pitcher Kyenne Wade threw a no-hitter. Parsons had three base runners the game — two walks and one hit batter. A sophomore, Wade struck out 15 Vikings.

Grizzlies host invite at Forest Park
The Labette County High School tennis team hosted an invite on Tuesday at Forest Park in Parsons. The Grizzlies took second place with six wins. Independence was first with 10 wins, while Columbus and Fort Scott finished third and fourth.
At number-one singles, Josh Mathes took third place. His win came against Fort Scott 8-0. Mathes lost his matches to Independence and Columbus.

Despite loss, Vikings baseball team makes progress

Gerald Beardmore looked on the bright side.
After his Parsons High School baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Nevada, Mo. on Monday night, Beardmore focused on the positives, not the negatives.

The St. Paul High School girls swim team has just four members. And three of them have already qualified for the state meet with their individual performances.

COLUMBUS — The Labette County High School softball team earned a 6-5 victory over Columbus on Monday. It was the team’s first win of the season.
Columbus earned a split by taking game two 17-7.
In the first game, Columbus led 5-2 when the Lady Grizzlies scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

COLUMBUS — The Labette County Grizzlies swept a baseball doubleheader from Columbus on Monday, winning game one 12-0, and game two 9-2.

Hurley is new Oswego football coach
Travis Hurley will take over the football coaching duties at Oswego High School.
Hurley’s hire was approved by the school board on Monday. Hurley was an assistant at Labette County this past season, but has head coaching experience. He was Erie’s head coach for a couple of seasons.
Hurley will take over for Travis Burk, who resigned the position after one season.

LCC baseball takes three of four from Allen County
The Labette Community College baseball team took three of four games from Allen County. The first three games were played over the weekend in Iola, with game four being played Monday afternoon in Parsons. LCC won Monday’s game 9-0.
Allen County beat LCC 3-1 on Saturday.

Kaylee Krull and Abe Russell led the way for the hosts at Friday’s Parsons Invitational Track Meet.
A Parsons High School junior distance runner, Krull had two first place finishes at the meet, which featured 12 teams.
Krull took first place in the 1600 with a time of 5:38.

LCC softball sweeps Hutchinson
An offensive explosion propelled the Labette Community College softball team to a 12-5 win over Hutchinson in game one of a doubleheader on Friday.
Labette completed the sweep by taking game two 9-3.

ST. PAUL — St. Paul beat Jayhawk-Linn in walk-off fashion on Thursday, winning 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was called off due to darkness.
