As David O’Bryan steps out of the just-evacuated subway station, he’s still unsure about what has just occurred.
Standing on the sidewalk, O’Bryan looks on as police cars, fire trucks, and then ambulances roar past with sirens blazing.
The next few minutes are confusing, if not a blur.

Swimming: State-qualifying times secured

Friendly rivals met on Wednesday as the Parsons High School girls swim team hosted St. Paul for an invite at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center pool.

Johnson will play basketball for Hounds

ALTAMONT — Dontae Johnson will play basketball in Parsons again.
But when that happens, he’ll be wearing a Greyhounds uniform.
A Labette County High School senior from Parsons, Johnson signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play basketball for Fort Scott Community College, where he’ll play for the Greyhounds.

EL DORADO — A six run fourth inning lifted the Labette Community College baseball team past Butler 8-1 on Tuesday at McDonald Stadium.
The teams played one nine-inning game.

COFFEYVILLE — After letting game one get away, the Labette County High School baseball team settled for a split at Coffeyville on Tuesday in SEK League play.
Coffeyville won game one 2-1, and the Grizzlies took game two 4-1 to earn the split.

Lady Grizzlies earn league softball wins, fall to Indy
COFFEYVILLE — The Labette County High School softball team earned a sweep over Coffeyville in dominating fashion on Tuesday, winning game one 21-1, and game two 16-1.
With the sweep, the Lady Grizzlies earned their first league wins of the season.
“We definitely needed these,” Labette County Coach Lori Green said. “It felt good to get a sweep. We pounded the ball in both games.”

ARMA —The St. Paul High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Northeast-Arma on Tuesday.
St. Paul won game one 9-5, and then lost game two, as Northeast earned a 10-6 victory.
Jake O’Brien had three hits in game one, while Anthony Diskin and Tyler Stine had two hits apiece.

FRONTENAC — Undefeated Frontenac swept a baseball doubleheader from the Parsons Vikings on Monday, winning game one 8-1, and game two 10-2.

The Erie High School varsity golf team competed at Oswego on Monday.
Erie edged out Jayhawk-Linn by one stroke to take second place.
Hunter Mildfelt took fifth place and Zach McCoy finished 10th.

Erie High School senior Kailey Cleaver signs a letter of intent on Monday to play basketball at Allen County Community College. Seated with Kailey are her parents Russ and Jill Cleaver. LCC softball continues winning ways
A western Kansas road trip went extremely well for the Labette Community College softball team.
The Lady Cardinals won all four games of the stretch. LCC defeated Dodge City 8-0 and 6-5 on Friday. Labette then swept both games from Pratt on Saturday, winning 12-0 and 8-5.
With the wins, Labette is now 27-13 overall and 20-4 in the Jayhawk East, on top of the standings.

FORT SCOTT — The Labette Community College baseball team managed to win one game out of four over the weekend against Fort Scott.
Fort Scott’s Greyhounds won both games on Friday, winning 5-2 and 3-1.

The Parsons High School boys tennis team picked up some experience with a home invite on Friday.
The Vikings hosted an invite with league rivals Pittsburg, Independence, Fort Scott, and Coffeyville at Forest Park.
At number-one singles, Payton Hays of Parsons took first place.

Hurley thrilled to coach at Oswego

The opportunity to coach at Oswego was just too good to pass up for Travis Hurley.
Hurley was named Oswego High School’s new head football coach this week.
