PHS gets fourth at Pitt

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Purple Dragons hosted the 2011 Pittsburg Invitational at the Crestwood Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

The home team fired a 315 and was led by a 36-33 — 69 by senior Jon Nichols to sweep the top spot in the team and individual categories.

Pittsburg finished with four golfers that shot sub-90 rounds to take the tournament by 16 strokes over Independence.

Locally, Parsons High School shot a 345 as a team to finish in fourth. The Vikings finished the day with six golfers below 100 strokes.

Parsons was led by freshman Gilvon Darkis, who shot a 40-41 — 81 to place seventh overall.

The Labette County High School golf team took sixth overall with a 364.

The Grizzlies were led by Braden Page, who shot a 41-43 — 84 that placed him just outside of the top 10.
