COFFEYVILLE — Herschel L. Foote, 79, of Coffeyville died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 9, 1931, at Big Cabin, Okla., to Henry Bryan and Mary Edna (Bacon) Foote. Herschel grew up in the Big Cabin area, where he attended rural grade schools and graduated from Big Cabin High School in 1949.
In December 1952 he entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Following his discharge in December 1954 he worked for Boeing in Seattle until returning to the Big Cabin area, where he farmed with his parents and was a truck driver for Elliott Truck Line in Vinita.
On April 16, 1966, he married Carolyn Handy at Wichita. Following their marriage they made their home near Cherryvale while Herschel worked for Electra in Independence. They later moved to Parsons, where he worked for the Parsons school district and at the ITV Studio. In 1975 they moved to Coffeyville and he worked as a quality control engineer at Automotive Control Corp. in Independence. He worked there for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church and the Joy Group at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Hutcheson of Springfield, Tenn.; a son, Brian Foote of Denver; and five grandchildren, Kathryn Hutcheson, Andrew Hutcheson, Logan Hutcheson, Ashleigh Foote and Derek Foote; and a brother, Marvin Foote of Tiburon, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin daughters; and two brothers, Bill Foote and Raymond Foote.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Tyro Christian Church in Tyro with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Tyro Christian Church Technology Ministry and these may be left with the funeral home or mailed to 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, 67337.
