Marjorie M. Twedell, 90, of Parsons, formerly of Dallas, died at 3:55 a.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Labette Health.

She was born on July 2, 1920, in Athol, S.D., to Earl and Nettie Mae (Holbrook) Strong. She grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D., married Fred Rich and had three children, Shirley, Carole and Fred Jr. After divorce, she married Richard A. Twedell on Oct. 19, 1951, in Dallas and had one son, David. Richard A. Twedell preceded her in death in May 1989.

Following the death of her husband, she remained in Dallas until June 2000. In 2003, she moved to Parsons after the death of her daughter, Shirley, and son-in-law, Walt, to be with her daughter, Carole.

In earlier years, she had attended the Nazarene Church. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Fred “Freddie” Rich and his wife, Georgene, of Richardson, Texas, and David Twedell and his wife, Kathy, of Pasadena, Calif.; a daughter, Carole Veenis of Parsons; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, “Dick,” she was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a daughter, Shirley Jean Yantis.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with the Rev. Rodney Howell officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

“Grandma Marge” was very loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love, laughter and guidance at her Dallas home will always live within their hearts and memories. She will be truly missed.
