George D. Allen, 68, of Parsons died at 2:13 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born on May 31, 1942, at rural McCune to Ralph and Lelia Pauline (Robbins) Allen. He grew up and attended schools in McCune and was a graduate of McCune High School.

Through the years, he worked at Vac-Co-Hy Printing in Girard, as a millwright at Wilson Brothers Walnut Lumber Co. and as a certified welder at Ruskin Manufacturing in Parsons from 1981 through his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of Westside Christian Church in Parsons. He enjoyed woodcarving, metal crafting and working in his yard. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He married Mary Ruth Wilson on Nov. 18, 1961, in McCune. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Patrick Allen of Parsons and Chris Allen of Altamont; a grandson, Payton Allen; three brothers, Robert Allen and his wife, Maxine, of McCune, Max Allen and his wife, Jean, of Parsons and Gaylen Allen of McCune; and a sister, Phyllis Baker and her husband, Bob Brainard, of Palm Bay, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Allen Jr.; and a sister, Leanna Smith.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
