She was born on March 27, 1917, at Lowry, S.D., to Mike and Magdelina (Miller) Goehring. She grew up and attended school there. She graduated from Selby High School and then Northern State University at Aberdeen, S.D.
Mrs. Blankenship taught school in a one-room school house in Walworth County, S.D., from 1938 to 1940 and then taught elementary school at Gettysburg, S.D., from 1942 to 1944.
On Jan. 25, 1948, she married Dave Blankenship at Lowry, S.D. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1997. Following their marriage, they moved to Chetopa, where she had lived since. While living in Chetopa, she served as the school librarian for Chetopa High School.
She enjoyed horse racing, picking pecans and cooking family dinners. She was well known for her delicious cinnamon rolls.
She was a member of United Methodist Church at Chetopa. She was also a member of a bridge club and the Junior Home Culture Club in the past.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Blankenship and Tim Blankenship, both of Chetopa; a daughter, Covina Bryson of Venice, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Elfrieda Holtzwarth of Mobridge, S.D.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and a sister.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery at Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
