AUSTIN, Texas — Leona “Bo” Abshere, 87, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Chetopa, died at 1:01 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011, at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in Austin, Texas.

She was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Alto, Texas, to Fred Monroe and Lela Elizabeth (Edwards) Grimes. She moved with her family to Tishomingo, Okla., and later Anadarko, Okla., where she grew up and attended school.

She married Marvin O. Abshere on Nov. 17, 1940, in Anadarko. In 1953, they moved to Lawton, Okla., where they owned and operated Marvin’s Burgers for 17 years. She worked in the family business when needed and also enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. In July 1994, she moved to Chetopa to be near her son, and in 2010, she relocated to Austin to be near her daughter.

She was a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, canning, reading and music.

Survivors include twins, Fred Abshere and his wife, Stella, of rural Chetopa, and Fredda Toole and her husband, Robert, of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Grimes of Louisville, Texas, and James Grimes of Casper, Wyo.; and two sisters, Hester Williams of Houston and Etta Oden of Cooper, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Abshere, on Dec. 29, 1987; a sister, Emma Shellenberger; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Coral Pacheco.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Becker Funeral Home in Lawton, Okla.
