Donald E. Henderson, 77, of Parsons died at 9:23 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Labette Health in Parsons. He had been in failing health.

He was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Ottawa to Cecil J. and Gladys Rose (Clark) Henderson. The family moved to McCune in 1946, where he continued his schooling, and later to Parsons.

Mr. Henderson served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. For 40 years he worked at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, retiring as a mental health technician.

On Nov. 24, 1956, he married Peggy Beggerly in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2003.

Survivors include a son, Don Henderson and his wife, Karen, of Wichita; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, including Perry Myers of the home; two sisters, Carol Dean of Anthony and Frances Goggin of Andover; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Wills of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry Henderson, John Henderson and Delmar Henderson.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery, with military honors by the Parsons VFW. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
