She was born July 5, 1934, at Carthage, Mo. to George Russell and Maudie Mae (Miller) Young. She graduated from Carthage High School, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Miami, Okla., and also attended Pittsburg State University.
In 1954 she married Thomas O. Harris at Miami, Okla. They divorced in 1981. She was employed in the office of the Kansas Vocational Association, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) and as an internship coordinator in the Technical Education Department of Pittsburg State. She served as secretary of the Kansas Vocational Association and the Kansas Industrial Education Association. From 1988 through 2005 she served as executive director of the Girard Area Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her sister Margie Ann Young of Tulsa; four children, Lee Ann Perez of the home in Parsons, Timothy Russell and Christopher March Harris, both of Pittsburg, and Jennifer Lynne Harris of Racine, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Mary Jean Anderson; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Kate Perez.
She was a loving woman with an unforgettable laugh and a wonderfully unique sense of timeless fashion. Her professionalism was unmatched and her compassion for others unlimited. “Granny” will be greatly missed.
