Leroy “Jack” Murdock Sr., 70, of Parsons died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born Dec. 25, 1940, at Picher, Okla, to Frederick Paul and Madge (Allen) Murdock. He grew up and attended school in Picher.
On June 12, 1960, he married Dixie Peterson at Pittsburg. They have lived in Parsons most of their married life. In his early adult years he worked at the Parsons Cold Storage and for 27 years was employed by the city of Parsons as a street sweeper. Jack enjoyed being outdoors and working on his tractor. He also enjoyed being with his dogs and watching professional wrestling.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie Murdock of the home; two sons, Leroy J. Murdock Jr. and his wife, Tammie, of Parsons and Gregg Murdock and his wife, Susan, of Diamond, Mo.; two daughters, LeAnne Murdock and companion Hugh Lamb and Kristi Murdock, all of Parsons; 14 grandchildren, Samantha Murdock, Kelsey Murdock, Jordan Murdock, Caleb Murdock, Malachi Murdock, Keilah Murdock, Noah Murdock, Padon Murdock, AsJa Schwandt and her husband, Adam, Haley Sutton, Tanner Sutton, Christian Sutton, Dalton Murdock and Thatcher Murdock; and a great-grandson, Londen Schwandt.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday Mount Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
