CHETOPA — Kimberly “Kim” Knudson Juenemann, 55, of Chetopa peacefully passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at her home in Chetopa.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1955, in Colby to Jack and Dorothy (Cox) Knudson. Her childhood years were spent in Rexford, graduating from Golden Plains High School. She then earned her associate degree from Colby Community College, Colby. She was awarded a bachelor of arts in English education with honors and a master of science in education/reading specialist from Fort Hays State University. After graduation, she taught English and coached girls volleyball and basketball at Colby Junior High, Colby. After three years, she began teaching high school English, forensics and yearbook at Golden Plains High School in Rexford. She later became superintendent of schools in Jennings, Herndon and then for USD 505 Chetopa-St Paul.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Lawrence “Larry” F., of the home; their sons, Lawrence Luke and his wife, Julie, and their children, Jorja and Jemma of Gem and Theodore Jack of Pittsburg and his significant other, Mariah; her father, Jack Knudson of Atwood; a sister, Juliann Knudson of Atwood; a brother, Thomas Korby Knudson and his wife, Pam, of Colby; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy (Cox) Knudson; and a brother, J. Todd Knudson.
Kim will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her passionate love of family, her constant striving for excellence and her tireless work for the children and staff to whom she gave her support without reservation.
With her leadership, USD 505 Chetopa became USD 505 Chetopa-St. Paul, which was a constant source of pride. She could be seen in virtually every school and community event. She was an ardent supporter for the towns of Chetopa and St. Paul and worked in many civic organizations promoting small town life.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chetopa High School gymnasium. A second memorial service will be at 1:15 p.m. Monday at the Rexford Community Church in Rexford. Burial will follow at Rexford Cemetery.
