Nancy A. Roper, 66, of Parsons died at 7:35 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, in the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center at Chanute.

She was born on May 31, 1945, at Parsons to Arlon and Avis (York) Jones. She grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons grade schools and Labette County Community High School.

She worked at Johnson’s café in her youth and later at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. She also worked at Adventure Line Manufacturing, Alloway’s Restaurant and the Parsonian Hotel. She worked briefly at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center before retiring in 2008.

She married Bob Hinman at Parsons. They later divorced. She married Mike Roper at Parsons. They later divorced.

She enjoyed bowling and bowled competitively in some women’s leagues. She also enjoyed bingo, Keno, going to casinos and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. Most of all she cherished her family and loved sharing her life with them.

Survivors include a son, Bob “Bobby” Hinman and his companion, Jennifer West, of Parsons; two daughters, Cyndi Lock and her companion, Charles Becher, of Chanute and Georgia Roperd and her husband, Angel Azpilcueta, of WaKeeney; her companion, James “Jim” Alspaugh of the home; seven grandchildren, Amber Munding, Kody Wilson, Kyler Wilson, Dakota Hinman, Bradley Myers, Jose Azpilcueta and Zaira Azpilcueta; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Alexis and Keggun Carson; a brother, Jerry Jones of Isabelle; nieces and nephews, Tammy Erickson, Michelle Anderson, Suzanne Jones, Keith Jones and Joel Jones; and her cousin, Mary Ruth Allen of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harmony Grove Cemetery. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The casket will remain closed.
