Karene K. Hill, 74, of Parsons died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, in Labette Health.

She was born on June 20, 1937, at Parsons to Arthur Harvey and Eula Cleo (Baker) Meriwether Jr. She grew up at Parsons and attended schools here until moving with her parents to Tokyo, Japan, where she graduated from high school. She returned to Parsons where she attended Parsons Junior College and then Kansas State Teacher’s College at Pittsburg where she received at bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

She moved to Wichita and then Long Beach, Calif., where she taught. She moved back to Wichita where she received an associate’s degree in nursing from Butler County Community College. She worked at St. Joseph Medical Center and at St. Francis Via Christi Medical Center. She also worked at the Best Western Reservation Center in Wichita before retiring in 2002.

She married Ronald Hill on Dec. 27, 1959, at Buena Park, Calif. He survives of the home.

She enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, reading and crossword puzzles. She attended the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Wichita.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, David Hill and his wife, Denise, of rural Angola, Kevin Hill of Parsons and Michael Hill and his wife, Jenny, of Olathe; five grandchildren, Lindsay Oakley, Joshua Hill, Katie Hill, Rebecca Hill and Kristina Hill; and a sister, Barbara Jean Bolander of Flint, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home at their convenience to sign the register.
