ALTAMONT — Willie “Marie” Jackson, 89, a longtime resident of Altamont, died at 3:21 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1921, in Natchitoches, La., to William H. and Ora E. (Clements) Jones. She grew up in Louisiana and attended Louisiana Normal College in Natchitoches.

During World War II, she worked at Boeing. On June 6, 1945, she married Victor L. Jackson “at the little church around the corner” in New York City. Following marriage, they lived in New Orleans while he was attending medical school, then Wichita and finally Altamont, where he served the community as physician and she as office manager of the family practice.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Altamont and the Altamont Culture Club. She enjoyed gardening, art and craftwork.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Jackson of New Lebanon, N.Y., and Douglas Jackson of Cape Coral, Fla.; two daughters, Tana Hoye of Westminster, Colo., and Michele Aldwir of Yorba Linda, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, William Jones of Spokane, Wash.; and a sister, Mayme Levine of Tucson, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor L. Jackson, on Sept. 4, 2010; and a sister, Patricia Roberts.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
