CHANUTE — Arliene L. Willis, 96, a resident of the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute, and a former longtime resident of Luray, died at 5:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 at the care center.

She was born Jan. 5, 1915, at Luray to Charles and Ada (Girton) Lorenc. She grew up in Luray and graduated from the Luray High School.

Following her high school graduation she moved to Chanute and was employed at the J. C. Penney store. Mrs. Willis was employed for a time at the bank in Luray.

She married C. Melvin Willis of Chanute on Sept. 4, 1937, in Parsons. They lived and farmed many years in Luray and were members of the United Methodist Church there. In 2003 they returned to Chanute. Mr. Willis preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2009, after they had been married 71 years.

Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Jean Budd of Ridgefield, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. The Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Parsons is in charge of arrangements.
