Bette J. Baldwin, 85, of Parsons died at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Labette Health. She had been in failing health.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Olathe to C.W. and Lula (Laughlin) Thurston. She grew up and attended school in the Johnson County area and was a graduate of Stanley High School.

She married Val L. Baldwin.

She worked in bookkeeping.

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Baldwin of Parsons and Greg L. Baldwin of Basehor; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Ohmes of Monrovia, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Val Baldwin, on April 25, 1960; a brother; and three sisters.

Following cremation, burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons is in charge of arrangements.
