Mertie Riepe, 80, of Parsons died at 10:14 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

She was born on May 15, 1931, in Parsons to Alfred Estle and Adeline M. (Pasley) Manners, longtime farmers in the rural area east of Parsons. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Labette County Community High School at Altamont.

On July 1, 1951, she married Max A. Riepe in Parsons. After their marriage, they lived in Parsons and Altamont while Max worked as a school teacher and administrator. In 1975, they moved to Grove, Okla., and operated a resort on Grand Lake. After retiring, they returned to Parsons. Max preceded her in death on March 25, 2008.

She was a member of Foursquare Church and through the years had been involved in various activities.

Survivors include a daughter, Tona Huggins and her husband, Billy, of Stillwater, Okla.; a son, Chris Riepe of Joplin; two grandchildren, Darin Huggins of Tulsa and Daniel Huggins of Stillwater, Okla.; a brother, Alfred Manners and his wife, Nancy, of Parsons; two sisters, Marjorie Larsen and her husband, Melvin, and Linda Dessenberger and her husband, Larry, all of Parsons; and a sister-in-law, Jeanie Manners of Parsons.

Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant sister and a brother, Kenneth Manners.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Foursquare Church Camp Scholarship Fund and may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, 67357.
