She was born on July 3, 1931, at Arlington to William and Pearl (Locke) Powers. She grew up in Altamont and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1949.
On Dec. 14, 1949, she married Charles Olson at the Methodist Church in Altamont. They lived in different areas while Charlie was serving in the U.S. Army. They have made their home in Parsons since 1951 and have been married 62 years.
Rosie was employed at Mason, Plowman and Mason Accounting firm from 1952 to 1966. She then joined her husband in the operation of Olson’s Ace Hardware Store, where she remained active until her death.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Parsons. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing and cross stitching. She dearly loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Olson of the home; a daughter, Nancy Olson of Parsons; four grandchildren, Kristin Kellogg and her husband, Travis, Ben Ryan and his wife, Beth, and Michael Olson and his wife, Jessica, all of Parsons, and Aja Shroll and her husband, Dean, of Dallas; eight great-grandchildren, Abby, Colton and Kaitlyn Ryan, Travis Kellogg Jr. and Chance Kellogg and Jaycee and Xzavier Olson, all of Parsons, and Keiran and Ean Shroll, both of Dallas; six brothers and sisters Forrest Powers and his wife, Carol, Frances Seely and her husband, Richard, Ralph Powers and Wanda Heibert, all of Wichita, Otis Powers of Chicago and Bill Powers and his wife, Donna, of McKinney, Texas; and two sisters-in-law, Nina Powers of Gold Beach, Ore., and Juanita Powers of Derby.
Preceding her in death was her son, Robert Olson, on Jan. 6, 2011; two brothers, Bob Powers and Donnie Powers; two sisters-in-law, Margie Powers and Arlene Powers; and a brother-in-law, Levi Heibert.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
