GROVE, Okla. — Ruth Ellen Leap, 86, of Grove, Okla., formally of Blue Springs, Mo., died on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.

Ruth was born on March 18, 1925, to Lewis and Hazel (Hudson) Horn on March 18, 1925.

In 1942, she married Harold D. Leap. They lived in the Bartlett area for nearly 20 years and farmed on his family farm. 

“Granny” was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a talented artist and was employed as an advertising artist. She enjoyed the companionship of her pets, which were family to her. Ruth enjoyed flowers and had a green thumb.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Michael and Mary Anne Leap of Blue Springs, Mo., David and Eileen Leap of Caney, Lyn and Harold Thornton of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Mark and Patti Leap of Grain Valley, Mo., and Tom and Diane Leap of Independence, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, Matt, Amy, Kelli, Jessica, Cody, Amos, Tracey, Tad, Wendi, Molly, Casey, Gabe, Wes and Braden Thomas; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evanne Smith of California and Edna Price of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a son, Jeffrey; a grandson, Chad; her parents, Lewis and Hazel Horn; a sister, Bobbie Wilson; and a brother, Gordon Horn.

Her wisdom, good counsel and delightful sense of humor which she bravely maintained to her last moments are irreplaceable and will be sorely missed. She has said many times the favorite times of her life were the ones spent around the table with her family.

The memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 3108 Westbound 40 Hwy, Blue Springs, Mo. Inurnment will be at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett at 2 p.m. Saturday. Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
