OSWEGO — Betty V. Wiley, 84, of rural Oswego died at Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at her home.
She was born July 19, 1927, near Altamont to Forrest and Virgie (Raymond) Miller. She grew up and attended rural schools in Labette County and was a 1945 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
She attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) attaining her teaching certificate. She taught the 1945-46 school year at Foland School in rural Bartlett.
She married Milan D. Wiley on March 11, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She enjoyed her family and farm life, especially raising poultry. She was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Kansas Farm Bureau.
Survivors include four sons, Gerald Wiley of Altamont, Daryl Wiley and his wife, Judy, of Marshfield, Mo., Steven Wiley and his wife, Janice, of Charlotte, Tenn., and Scott Wiley and his wife, Shelly, of rural Altamont; two daughters, Marilyn Nelson and her husband, Don, of rural Caney and Carolyn Nelson and her husband, Dareld, of rural Edna; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene Harshaw of Oswego.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Garold; a brother, Arden Miller; a sister, Rosella Feldt; and a granddaughter, Andrea (Wiley) Shaffer.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Altamont United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
