CHEROKEE — Virginia Potocnik, 85, of Cherokee died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

She was born April 14, 1927, in Cherokee the daughter of Mary (Garretson) Kellogg.

On March 4, 1944, she married Rudy Potocnik Sr. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1996.

She was an assistant cook at the Cherokee Grade School for 40 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, where she was active. She loved yard work and was a skilled quilter. She enjoyed time spent with her family, grandchildren and church family, especially the time she spent fishing with her husband, Rudy.

Survivors include two sons, Rudy Potocnik Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Chanute and James Lee Potocnik and his wife, Katie, of Altamont; a sister, Betty Serra of Capaldo; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bobby Potocnik; two sisters, Fern Traylor and Hazel Altum; and a brother, Junior Madison.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with the Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee City Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
