Yvonne Hornback, 86, of Parsons died Saturday morning, June 30, 2012, in the emergency room of Labette Health. Death was unexpected.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1925, at Morehead to Henry Thomas and Effie (Bussert) Alexander. She grew up in the Morehead area and attended schools there until her senior year. She graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1943.

On Sept. 8, 1945, she married Loel Hornback in Cherryvale. They were longtime residents of rural Cherryvale until moving to Parsons several years ago. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Hornback had worked at H.D. Lee Garment Co. in Cherryvale, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons and Emerson Electric Co. in Independence, from where she retired.

She was a member of Cherryvale United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She loved growing flowers and spending time with her family.

Other survivors include two sons, Dick Hornback and his wife, Dana, of Parsons and Bob Hornback and his wife, Margy, of Burrton; four grandsons, Doug Hornback, Mike Hornback, Mitch Hornback and Darren Hornback; a brother, Don Alexander of Lenexa; and three sisters, Nadine Wise of Calvert City, Ky., Doris Bottens of Coal City, Ill., and Rita Powell of Weeping Water, Neb.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Friends also may call at the funeral home at their convenience Monday evening.

Memorials are suggested to either Mount Zion Church or Cherryvale United Methodist Church and may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, 67357.
