CHANUTE — Neva E. Christie, 106, of Chanute died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Chanute Healthcare Center.

She was born Jan. 28, 1906, in Erie to Thomas V. and Margaret (Herod) Miller. She graduated from Erie High School in 1923 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College. She taught school for several years before her marriage in Erie.

On June 2, 1932, she married Earl L. Christie at the Federated Church in Erie. They lived in several places during his employment with the Santa Fe Railroad and returned to Chanute after his retirement. They had been married 74 years when he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2006.

Mrs. Christie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chanute and was a member of the Federated Church in Erie in her early years. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star in Erie. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved to travel.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen "Sue" Arredondo of Tempe, Ariz.; and a great-granddaughter, Michelle Barton of Tucson, Ariz.

She also was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Christie Jones and Tracey Barton; two brothers, Merritt Miller and Arthur Miller; and two sisters, Crystle Faust and Mariam Cross.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Erie.
