He was born on Sept. 28, 1935, in Manhattan. He was adopted at the age of 3 and raised by Clem and Rosalin (Munk) Nowak.
He married Tina Gottschalk on Nov. 25, 1972, in Schoenchen. She survives of the home.
He was a bus driver for Hays USD 489 for 31 years.
Other survivors include a son, John Nowak of Victoria; two daughters, Kristi Wasinger of Victoria and Lisa Chappell of Hays; five grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Nowak of Gorham; a sister, Jan Kirk of Salina; and a sister-in-law, Ilene Ritz of Parsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Lacey Wasinger and Dalton Wasinger; and three sisters, Lorraine Webb, Virginia Schaeffer and Donna Otis.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. A Schoenchen Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
