GIRARD — Joanne Davenport, 64, of Girard died at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Girard Medical Center.

Joanne was born on May 18, 1948, in Parsons to John L. and Martha B. (McElwain) Baldwin. She attended schools in Girard and graduated from Girard High School.

On Aug. 30, 1970, she married Dwayne “Gabe” Davenport at United Methodist Church in Farlington. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2009.

She worked at Western Insurance in Fort Scott, Markley Implement Co., Producer’s Co-op and Forms Manufacturing, all of Girard, and she owned and operated the Subway restaurant in Girard. She was a devoted and active member of the Girard community.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Farlington. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

She enjoyed her family and decorating for all the holidays. She was a volunteer with Harry Hynes Hospice at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, and she enjoyed visiting with the residents at Westridge Retirement Community in Girard.        

Survivors include two sons, Mike Davenport and his wife, Jennifer, of Fort Smith, Ark., and Joey Davenport and his wife, Tasha, of Girard; her grandchildren, Jacob, Gage, Maddie, Cami and Gabi Davenport; a sister, Eleanor Peak and her husband, Bob, of Girard; numerous family members; and very special friends and family, Bill and Cathy McWilliams and Gary and Carol Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with the Rev. Doug Amend officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday.
