COLUMBUS — Matthew Joseph McCulley, 55, of Columbus died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Freeman Hospital at Joplin.

He was born July 22, 1957, to Lawrence Lee and Edna Jane (Davis) McCulley. He attended Oswego area schools, later attending Wentworth Military Academy in Kansas City.

He was a welder working for Atlas Steel Co., Fuel Dynamics Coal Co. and last working for Mid America Pipe Co.

Mr. McCulley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oswego and Oswego Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his mother, Edna McCulley of Oswego; a daughter, Kitty McCulley of Kansas City; two sons, Zachary McCulley of Lamar, Mo., and Cole McCulley and his wife, Lyndse, of Fort Riley; a brother, Daniel Ryah McCulley of Henderson, Nev.; two sisters, Connie Pogue of Hatfield, Mass., and Beverly Walker of Inola, Okla.; two grandchildren, Bodie and Brynlee McCulley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Lee McCulley; and a brother, Lucky McCulley.

Matt is sadly missed by Karen McCulley-Brewer, the children’s mother.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Jeff Wary officiating. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Bill Cowan, Daniel McCulley, Todd Riddle, Zachary McCulley, Cole McCulley and Jim Bozone.
