She was born on Oct. 5, 1979, at Parsons to Donald and Deborah (Smith) Whelan. She grew up at St. Paul and attended St. Paul schools, graduating from St. Paul High School in 1998.
She attended Neosho County Community College, where she received her licensed practical nursing certification. She moved to Parsons in 2000 and she later obtained her associate's degree in nursing from Labette Community College. She worked at the Elmhaven West and East as a registered nurse.
She enjoyed camping, hiking, going to concerts and caring for her patients while working as a nurse.
Kim’s survivors include her parents, Don and Debbie Whelan of Bluejacket, Okla.; two sisters, Melissa Cicotte and her husband, Justin, of Miami, Okla., and Stephanie Look and her husband, Tad, of Olathe; a half brother, Bryan Whelan of rural St. Paul; several nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles; numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Oscar and Dortha Smith; and her paternal grandparents, Edgar and Katherine Whelan.
Following cremation a memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home at St. Paul. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home in St. Paul after 1 p.m. Thursday.
