He was born July 25, 1925, in St. Paul the son of Herman and Louise Sack Volz.
He was a carpenter for Prairie Builders in Dodge City for 32 years and later worked in building maintenance at First National Bank, Dodge City, retiring in 1996.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
On Nov 8, 1952, he married Betty Tanner in St. Mary. She survives in their Dodge City home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Tama Hanson of Pawnee Rock; a son, Tim Volz of Dodge City; four grandchildren; and a brother, Francis Volz of Parsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Martin.
Funeral Mass was Oct. 12 at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Burial was in Greencrest Memorial Gardens in Dodge City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Hospice of the Prairie or Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Both may be sent in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave, Dodge City, 67801.
