She was born on Nov. 19, 1919, at Strauss to Alvah and Myrtle Marie (VanSlyke) Pence. She graduated from McCune High School and lived in the McCune area most of her life.
On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Glen Dee Michael in McCune. Shortly after their marriage, they bought a farm north of McCune, where they farmed many years. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1988.
Evelyn worked as a psychiatric aide at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for more than 30 years.
She was a member of McCune United Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the McCune Ladies Lions Club and the McCune Improvement Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Harper and her husband, Terry, of Parsons; two grandchildren, Scott Harrison and his wife, Dustee, of McCune, and Crystal Riley and her husband, Rob, of Parsons; a former son-in-law, Mike Harrison of Parsons; two stepgrandchildren, Brian Harper and his wife, Martha, and Stephen Harper and his wife, Desiree, all of Parsons; and nine great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Pence; and a sister, Ella Jean Fager.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
