She was born on May 19, 1920, to Lou Tom and Maria (Uselton) Qualls in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where she grew up with her many brothers and sisters.
She attended Murfreesboro’s Central High School, graduating in 1938. She later attended business college and worked for many years as the head of accounts at Goldstein’s Department Store in Murfreesboro.
She married Joe Maxwell of Murfreesboro. He preceded her in death. She later married Neal Shepard of Parsons. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include stepchildren Nealette Little and Gary Shepard of Parsons, Shirley Thomas, Lisa Cunningham, Rodney Shepard of Merced, Calif., and Jeffrey Shepard of Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by nine siblings.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today at Pleasant Hill Cemetery east of Dennis. Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale is in charge of arrangements.
