He was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Sublette, Ill., to William Ralph and Letta Mae (Scott) Kent. He had lived in Oswego since 1962, moving from Wausa, Neb.
He graduated from the Humboldt High School before attending the University of Kansas. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a glider pilot in Europe. He worked as a rural mail carrier for several years, retiring in 1979. He had delivered mail through the Oswego, Edna and Bartlett post offices.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Oswego. He was a former member of the Rotary Club and the Elks Club. His favorite pastime was sitting down with a good book.
He married Betty Ann Ronsick on Dec. 23, 1945, in Humboldt. She died Nov. 20, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Darrel Kent of Tulsa and Duane Kent of Castle Rock, Colo.; a daughter, Cynthia Sanders of Oswego; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Two sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery.
