He was born on Dec. 30, 1932, in St. Paul to Ray and Cora (Brazil) Coomes.
On March 2, 1962, he married Roberta Jean Witty in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
Bob was a general contractor and was the owner and operator of Coomes Construction and Coomes Self Storage.
He was a longtime Frontenac area resident and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. He was a former member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Additional survivors include a son, Ben R. Coomes of Frontenac; a daughter, Kyra Hensley of Frontenac; a brother, Jack Coomes of Pittsburg; three grandchildren, Keele Allen and her husband, Travis, Natalie Coomes and Karsyn Hensley, all of Frontenac; and a great-grandson, Karter Allen of Frontenac.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; a brother, Jimmy Coomes; and a sister, Mary “Sis” Phelan.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Fr. Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. today at Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, where the family will receive friends following the rosary.
