CHETOPA — Barbara Jo Evans, 84, of Chetopa died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Miami, Okla.

She was born on May 28, 1928 in rural Columbus to Barnet and Finita (Harrison) Hale. She attended rural Cherokee County elementary schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1945.

She taught art classes in Chetopa and various places in Labette County through Labette Community College as well as assisting her husband in farming.

She enjoyed painting, sewing, embroidering and cooking. She was a 4-H leader. She was a member of the Aladdin Knights club and enjoyed collecting Aladdin lamps with her husband.

She was a member of Melrose Methodist Church in Melrose.

She married Arthur Robert Evans on June 2, 1945, in Chetopa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2007.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Jo Evans of Chetopa; four grandchildren, Angela Evans, Lydia Evans, Dana Jo Johnson and Joe Wolfe; five great-grandchildren, Aidan Johnson, Payton Johnson, Robert Dalton Leal, Tiffani Jo Thompson and Baylee Michelle Mears; and a brother, Jim Hale and his wife, Ruth, of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dean Evans, on Sept. 8, 2012; and two sisters, Linda Alsbaugh and Betty Rogers.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
